The government of the province of Buenos Aires has announced a new increase in fines for traffic violations for the period of May-June, effective since May 1st. This measure, the third update so far this year, was communicated through the Buenos Aires Official Bulletin, specifically in Resolution 6/2025. The increase is reflected in the value of the fixed unit (UF), which is the basis for calculating fines and has risen from $1,452 to $1,506.
Unpaid fines during the voluntary period or in subsequent instances have legal and financial consequences for the offending drivers. Non-payment generates interest and surcharges, increasing the original fine amount. Additionally, it may result in the retention of the driver's license, blocking of administrative procedures related to the vehicle, or loss of the right to drive.
There are specific ranges for fine amounts depending on the violation committed in the province of Buenos Aires. For example, exceeding the maximum speed can incur a fine ranging between $225,000 and $1,506,000, while driving with a suspended license due to ineptitude can result in a fine of $225,900 to $1,506,000.
It is important to meet certain requirements to avoid fines during traffic controls in the Buenos Aires territory. These requirements include having the documentation in order (valid driver's license, vehicle identification card, mandatory insurance, and VTV up to date), possessing the required safety elements, and respecting the driving conditions according to traffic regulations.
In case of committing a violation, paying the fine within the voluntary period established in the first notification can mean a 50% discount on the minimum sanction value. It is essential to be aware of the due dates for fines to avoid surcharges and legal inconveniences.
